The Truth About Garcinia Cambogia?
September 17th, 2013
Consumer's Guides doesn't often choose to review supplements, but with all the craze over a new weight-loss product, Garcinia Cambogia, we thought it was time we stepped into the discussion.
Whenever a new weight-loss supplement gets mentioned on television or in the news, fly-by-night companies jump at their chance to cash in on the craze. But this can lead to a lot of confusion.
Just Google Garcinia Cambogia and you’ll see this for yourself: 25 companies are all offering their own version of the supplement. Of course, this can get confusing fast. With so many companies out there selling a product, how do you know which one uses the best, high-quality ingredients without making the supplement less effective by watering it down with unnecessary ingredients?
With so many products, it’s also no surprise that people have serious concerns when it comes to finding a good supplement online. Here were some of our own concerns, which we know are shared by many people looking for Garcinia Cambogia:
They sometimes don’t work: this is the main reason people I’ve spoken to are afraid to try Garcinia Cambogia. And they’re justified because many of the products on the market don’t contain the right ingredients in the right proportions or doses to be effective.
They’re expensive: Some companies sell Garcinia Cambogia for as much as $100 per bottle. That’s a lot to invest in a product you’re unsure about.
Side effects: Some Garcinia Cambogia blends include filler ingredients like caffeine that make up for a shortage of ingredients with stimulants and other fillers.
They’re just taking advantage of a trend: This was a popular sentiment felt by many. Fly-by-night companies toss a hot-selling word like “ultra,” “premium,” or “natural” in front of the supplement’s name in order to get it out the door fast.
So how can you tell which Garcinia Cambogia supplements are the real deal? And what should you look for when deciding which brand you want to try?
The first thing that caught our attention is reputation. Loads of companies will jump on a trend and sell nothing but that hot product because they know there’s a demand. If the Garcinia Cambogia you find isn’t backed by a reputable seller, you should steer clear of that company. These people only want your money and likely don’t care about selling you a high-quality product.
The second thing we found is the importance of third-party testing. Most of the brands that didn’t even make it past our initial round, had no third-party testing to verify the ingredients or effectiveness of the product.
We know you don’t have the time or extra money to waste trying to wade through the latest fat-burning craze. So we took the guess work out of it for you by researching several brands of Garcinia Cambogia ourselves.
Our Research Method
For Garcinia Cambogia to actually work, it has to have the right ingredients in the right proportions. And that’s where one of the biggest problems always arises.
Many of the ingredients that make up a good Garcinia Cambogia supplement aren’t cheap. So companies will buy less effective, cheaper extracts to use in their products. Other companies use fillers, binders, and synthetic ingredients to help cut costs.
For example, some Garcinia Cambogia companies will include the right ingredients, but the HCA extract they use (that’s the active ingredient that helps people lose weight) is not the same as what scientists used in clinical trials. When this happens, the company can save a lot of money, and the customer gets fooled.
To conduct our research, we got our hands on as many bottles of Garcinia Cambogia as possible--40 in total--and found out which ones have the right ingredients in the right proportions, because quality is the cornerstone to a good Garcinia Cambogia supplement.
After that, we found real customers who used these products and learned from their own experiences. We then used all these factors to review the best Garcinia Cambogia products on the market today.
What our Research Found
As we predicted, the vast majority of products we tested just didn’t have the high-quality ingredients in the right proportions to make them effective.
What we looked for: A good Garcinia Cambogia supplement should be at least 1,500mg, contain 60% HCA (the plant’s active ingredient), potassium to help with absorption--and nothing else. This benchmark test alone resulted in about half of the products we gathered being eliminated immediately.
The remaining brands had the right ingredients, but after researching the companies and their customers’ experiences, we had to eliminate them as well. After all, even if a company sells a good product, why would we recommend them if they refuse to stand by their satisfaction guarantees?
What about the brands that did make our list? Boy, are they amazing! Customers reported losing lots of weight--some in as little as one week--and the companies selling these products are established, reputable, and have some of the best return policies in the business.
Some of the men and women we talked to loved these brands so much, they take advantage of big discounts by ordering their supplements in bulk so they never run out. Now that’s a ringing endorsement.
